U.S. M&A deal activity increased in June, going up 5.8% with 1,202 announcements compared to 1,136 in May. However, aggregate M&A spending decreased. In June, 9% less was spent on deals compared to May.
In terms of M&A deal activity, 13 of the 21 sectors tracked by FactSet saw an increase in M&A deal activity over the past three months relative to the same three-month period one year ago. The five sectors that witnessed the largest increases in M&A deal volume were: Commercial Services (441 vs. 378), Industrial Services (257 vs. 207), Health Technology (127 vs. 90), Non-Energy Minerals (110 vs. 80) and Miscellaneous (27 vs. 17).
On the other hand, 7 of the 21 sectors tracked by FactSet saw a decrease in M&A deal activity over the past three months relative to the same three-month period one year ago: Finance (670 vs. 802), Consumer Non-Durables (66 vs. 86), Utilities (55 vs. 68), Consumer Services (204 vs. 217), and Producer Manufacturing (180 vs. 190).
Topping the list of the largest deals announced in June are: Space Exploration Technologies Corp's deal to acquire Anysphere, Inc. for $60 billion; IAC, Inc. proposal to acquire remaining 73.9% of MGM Resorts International for $9.1 billion; QUALCOMM, Inc.'s agreement to acquire Modular, Inc. for $3.9 billion; Patrick Industries, Inc. entering an agreement to acquire LCI Industries for $3.4 billion; Salesforce, Inc.'s agreement to acquire Intercom, Inc. for $3.6 billion.
