For a view from Capitol Hill and what’s happening in Washington DC toward the financial sector, we sat down with esteemed FactSet colleague Michele Lieber, Global Head of Government Affairs. Michele summarizes the activities she’s watching throughout the remainder of the current 118th Congress, the lead-up to the presidential election in November, and the convening of the 119th Congress in January. Topics include cybersecurity, data privacy, AI, the FDIC, CFPB regulatory pursuits, blockchain, cryptocurrency, sustainability frameworks, and credit card transaction fees. Listen below.

 

Michele Lieber is Global Head of Government Affairs at FactSet, based in Washington, DC. In this role, she is responsible for leading policy strategy and advocacy for FactSet and focuses on driving policy development and representing FactSet with legislative and regulatory policymakers, industry groups and key stakeholders. Michele also serves as an independent director for a consumer facing financial services company. Prior to joining FactSet, Michele founded and operated BluePoint DC, which was a boutique government affairs consultancy where she helped companies as a strategic adviser to boards and company CEOs. Before that Michele had a 25-year career as a government affairs attorney helping companies like Ally Financial where she established Ally’s Washington DC office and as chief public policy officer played an important role in the evolution of the company by helping GMAC and GM navigate the financial crisis and auto industry restructuring. Michele earned her J.D. from the University Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University.

Mr. Sean Ryan is the VP/Director for the banking and specialty finance sectors at FactSet. In this role, he guides the development of FactSet’s deep sector offering in these areas. He joined FactSet in 2019 and prior to that, he covered bank and specialty finance stocks for brokers including Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns and for sector-focused hedge funds FSI and SaLaurMor Capital. Mr. Ryan earned a Bachelor of Science in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University. He is a CFA charterholder.
